Demand for Noninvasive Fat Reduction Plummets
The category of procedures, which includes CoolSculpting, is down 40%, according to new data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons
Last week, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons released its 2024 statistics report. Across the surgical and minimally invasive categories, demand for procedures mostly held steady, without any major spikes. Surgically, butt and thigh lifts (and, huh, cheek implants) saw the greatest growth, each recording a 3% uptick from the previous year. In the nonsurgical realm, neuromodulators and HA fillers claimed the top two spots, with skin resurfacing treatments coming in third, up 6% from 2023.
What caught my eye, though, was another number in the % CHANGE 2024 vs 2023 column: -40%. Tallies for noninvasive fat reduction—CoolSculpting, Vanquish, Kybella, and the like—fell from 745,967 in 2023 to 447,581 in 2024.
What’s most surprising about the drop-off, IMO, is the fact that it took so long to transpire. I could speculate as to why these procedures have finally begun to fall from favor—some are more famous for complications than results, plus, there’s the Ozempic factor—but better, I think, to let doctors speak from experience.
